Guide to the Best Beaches in the Moraira Area
It's August as I write this, and its HOT. But in Moraira we have the perfect antidote to that with a wonderful string of irresistible beaches on our doorstep where a dip in the sea will refresh you throughout the day. Here I will give you the insider's advice on the beautiful beaches in this area to visit to recline and relax. The locals in this area are proud of their EEC Blue Flag (for cleanliness) beaches. And SSSHH! they are even better in the off season so take on these tips if you are looking to buy a property and spend some more time in the North Costa Blanca.
El Portet
This is a favourite beach for families with its calm turquoise water inviting kids to splash around in the shallows. To one end you can hire a paddleboard and try out your balance, and bob about amongst the yachts further out. There has been many a time I have come to El Portet to find it looking at peace, as perfect as a on Maldivian island. In Summer you will come across early morning free ti-chi, and on Christmas morning (25th) a celebration bright with Santa hats and brave smiles from those who take a cool dip in the sea. But for me the best time to visit is at the end of the day as the sun starts to set when the peachy tones emerge over the distant mountains, Peñon de Ifach and beyond.
There are a couple of beach side restaurant/casual bars overlooking the scene. Or for an upmarket option book Le Dauphin.
Ampolla
This is the beach right in the centre of Moraira, buzzing with life. There is a children´s play area and pond with ducks, plus a volley ball court, plus Summer exercise classes for adults.
When you want a rest from your beach antics, take a step into El Castillo Beach Bar for a quality down to earth meal or an icecream. Or you will find a great choice of other eateries a short stroll away.
Cala de Baladrar
A short way along the coast to Benissa you will find a pebble beach (pick up some beach shoes for swims here) and one of the best chiringitos (beach bars) in the area. You can shade under the olive trees and get a fabulous view of the Peñon d´Ifach at Calpe, a dramatic rock that will become a familiar backdrop when in the Moraira area. Midweek you can enjoy live music in summer here. Come away with an instagramable snap !
There are a string of gorgeous coves in this area to explore including Les Bassettes further towards Calpe with its giant rock in view where you can take part in watersports as well as enjoy the restaurants Coral Beach with tables spilling out onto the waterside rock or sophisticated Oceana upstairs.
Calpe
Here, some 10km away, you will find 2 wide stretches of sand at different angles branching off from the dramatic resident rock there. Platja de la Fossa you will reach first when you come from Moraira, and Platja de Cantal Roig on the other side. But sneaked in between the 2 at the end of the string of seafood restaurants at the port is Cala de Morello. It is small and perfectly formed - a lovely place to take a dip!
Cala Moraig
Surrounded by cliffs and below the residential resort of Cumbre del Sol you will find a gorgeous beach with bright blue inviting sea and even a cave to explore at one end. If you are the active type you can reach this via a cliff walk, but save this for when the heat has passed. You will find Cumbre del Sol, with its great facilities and views, plus highly rated restaurant with pool called Restaurant La Cumbre, over the hill from Moraira.
Beaches for those with Limited Mobility
Try out El Portet, Cala d´Advocat and La Fustera for easier access and disabled parking within easy reach.
Enjoy exploring the Moraira area and make the most of the stunning coastal coves and pale sand stretches!
